Résumé:
The built architectural heritage is the identity of each city. It is considered as a living testimony of the past civilizations, creativity, spatial planning related to natural contexts and social and cultural modes.
The mixing of ancient achievements that have succeeded in Algeria, have further enriched the country's cultural assets mainly historical monuments. This civilization mixing brought out countless buildings of particular architectural and historical interest. Mostaganem, as the case from the majority of Algerian cities, is rich in buildings achieved throughout the history. The architectural heritage of this city is in perpetual degradation facing several factors, favored by marginalization and constructive ignorance. Preserving this heritage is now an educational work for future and present generations.
In this perspective, the identification and knowledge of this architectural heritage have been carried out, as well as the recognition of its building materials. These approaches allow highlighting its characteristics and specificities and participating in the development of this heritage for its protection, rehabilitation and reinterpretation in a sustainability perspective, trying to apply proper scientific method to study the heritage architecture of the city.
The main objective that guided this research study is twofold: It is first necessary to develop an analytical framework for better architectural interpretation focusing on building materials interpretation, and then decode the messages and meaning provided by the architectural achievement as an inherited heritage support.
