The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the freezing extender (modified Kenney) supplemented with different concentrations of honey bees (honey spurge of the Algerian Sahara) on the motility and longevity of the Arab-barbe breed stallion spermatozoa after thawing.
Only one ejaculate from each of the two Arabian-barbe stallions was cryopreserved with freezing media (modified Kenney), without any supplementation (control) or with concentrations of 1% spurge honey, 2%, 3%, 4% and 5%. After thawing, all samples were held at 37 ° C, while the analyzes were performed at 0, 1/2, 1 and 2 h. The percentage of motility of the spermatozoa was determined by conventional laboratory methods. Compared to the control group, honey supplementation showed a significant improvement (2% and 3%) (P <0.01 at least) after sperm thawing, at 0, 1/2, 1 and 2 h. For the sperm motility parameters, the lowest concentration (1%) and the highest concentrations (4% and 5%) did not show significant differences (P> 0.05) compared to the control.
Supplementation of bee honey (spurge) in sperm extenders of Arab-barbe stallions has improved the parameters of sperm motility and longevity after thawing compared to control groups. |
