Our study was carried out at the CP1 / Z complex, particularly in the methanol production section.
We have detected a problem with the 700 unit (steam system); it is a serious energy, economic and environmental problem.
Analysis of the problem shows that the loss of steam at the V701 degasser causes challenges in the functioning of the rest of the boiler equipment.
Our solution and after a general study on the methanol synthesis process, consists in installing a heat exchanger of the calender beam type at the outlet of the P751A / B pump in section 700 in order to recover the excess of vapors released by the degasser V701.
The dimensional calculation of a new exchanger using the KERN method made it possible to assess the surface area and the overall heat transfer coefficient, as well as the charge losses.
The results of the HYSYS simulation obtained strongly recommend the installation of an exchanger for better exploitation of demineralized water within the CP1Z complex and thereby minimizing the steam losses for an energy and environmental gain.
