Mastitis is very common in dairy cows. They are characterized by a state of inflammation of the mammary gland resulting from the action of pathogenic micro-organisms of a wide variety of origins. The fight against mastitis starts with prevention on the one hand and treatment on the other. Antibiotics are thus conventionally used to fight against intra-mammary diseases. The objective of this work is the study of the antimicrobial activity of the essential oil of a plant of the genus Thymus, considered to be one of the richest in essential oils, on a bacterium responsible for intra- infection. Mammary gland, Staphylococcus aureus. The first part of this research allowed the isolation and identification of a staphylocoque -type bacterium, of the coagulase-negative group, isolated from a cow with mastitis. The second part was to study the antimicrobial activity of the extract of Thymus vulgaris L. from the Naama region on this germ. Aromatic and medicinal plants constitute an important source of antimicrobial molecules, in particular in their volatile extracts, and can be an alternative to antibiotic treatments. Antimicrobial activity against staphylocoque was reportedly achieved by the agar diffusion technique. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentrations (CMB) of thymus extract would have been evaluated. |
