Since the dawn of time, humans have used plants for healing, nourish or to protect their food against pests and diseases. This work aims to enhance an aromatic medicinal plant, Artemisia herba halba and test the antifungal effect "in vivo" and "in vitro" of its oily and aqueous extract to the anthracnose caused by the phytopathogenic fungus Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, one of the major constraints to the production of tomatoes and other fruits in the world.
The essential oil, extracted by hydrodistillation, was brought into direct contact with the fungus on PDA medium. While the aqueous extract obtained by the superheated water method served as a preventive treatment before inoculation of tomato leaves with Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. The results obtained show that the two extracts of Artemisia herba halba exhibited a strong antifungal activity proportional to the doses applied, revealing the great benefit of this plant in biological control. |
