Infrared spectroscopy provides usefull information on the nature and structure of
molecules in their undisturbed state and on the disturbances to which they may be subjected.
This is why the study of the surface of activated carbon by infrared spectroscopy is currently
developing. In this work we will for the first time use attenuated total reflection infrared
spectroscopy (ATR-IR) for the monitoring of adsorption and degradation phenomena on
activated carbons. Three materials have been studied..
This thesis work is divided into three main parts:
Part 1 :
• Study and follow-up of the transformation of a marine alga (Cystoseira stricta) into
active charcoal by infrared spectroscopy with ATR (total attenuation) quadrant transform.
• Investigates carbons activated by chemical reaction with H3PO4 using IR-TF
spectroscopy.
Part 2 :
This part deals with the experimental contribution of infrared transmission
spectroscopy to the understanding of the adsorption processes involved during the interaction
of a cationic dye (gentian violet) with a porous material (activated carbon). . The work relates
more particularly to a fundamental study of adsorption of gentian violet on Riedel commercial
activated carbon.
Part 3:
In this part, are considered the degradation products at the surface of the activated
carbon / TiO2 hybrid by using IR-TF spectroscopy as a function of the degradation time. |
