Abstract

During the twentieth century, the Algerian society experienced changes in all areas. Many factors have taken part; including globalization, information technology, modern means of communication and others. All these have led to significant changes in the culture of society and associated ideas, behaviours, attitudes and values, mainly in women. Women, on the other hand, represent half of the society, and therefore no one can deny their role in society from ancient times until now in socio-economic, political and other spheres. Since these changes continue to appear, they are associated with transformation in the different systems of society so that individuals can adapt to these changes. Among these systems, we can cite the values’ system. The latter is of great importance in the society that uses it as it works on the organization of relations and their regulation, the determination of roles between the individuals in society, especially the woman whose role is represented in two orders: the first is connected to her daily life in society and through which are transmitted cultures and values without difficulty. The other is related to her private life. The values society demands of women practise pressures that influence her behaviour, her work performance and her relationships with others, among them her partners in different situations of life. When coming to her participation in society and compared to man, what was acknowledged to man was forbidden to woman because she was confronted with values that prevented her from achieving her goals and objectives, especially in education and work. On the other hand, the changes, that the Algerian society underwent, were in favour of the woman mainly in what concerns values, which changed the relationship between woman and society. She was not an instrumentalist, who was connected to her traditional role of not leaving her home. On the contrary, her role has become of an interactive-reactive and influence-effect relationship because of its various interactive participations and certain cultural, social and political relations. Moreover, this change has led to a reduction in the cultural restrictions or challenges that faced the woman as well as change in certain inherited values. This is clearly reflected in her behaviour, ideas, visions and perceptions of knowledge, Education and work. Hence, the doors have been open in front of her in all fields and at all levels, she has become able to go out, learn and improve her education. This gave her the opportunity to work in various activities in order to prove her existence and ameliorate her social status. Thus, social changes have somehow influenced the woman's life, raising her educational level and her participation in the development of society. That’s why a large proportion of women have headed towards work outside home, grasping the opportunities presented to them in all areas and sectors, even those that have been limited to men.
