Abstract

In this thesis entitled “ architectural styles and their relation of the social and cultural specifity of the city “ _ field study of the city of biskra _ the subject has been approached from several angle , be they on the sociocultural or material needs( architrctural ) and their relationship to the non-material aspect or political and their rol in motiving the process of town planning and hausing … The research has examined the extent to which the city responds to the sociocultural needs of its inhabitants, and it has turned out that the subject of the study is full of traditional values due to many factors, either linked to the earliest origins ( rural ) , or the family type ( extended) , etc … it has also been shown that the population is able to meet their needs during the planning process, and it has been show that the mentality of the population is almost the same in traditional or modern housing . In addition the relationship between the material side of the sity and its non-material side has been discussed ; on the other hand, the study showed that the material construction had a positive or negative impact on humain being . The political factor was considered by the field study as the main driver of the housing process, that is, it ampacts on the rest of the study elements because it has advantages and disadvantages on the material and non-material structure of city .
