Oued Chéliff transports pollutants accumulated to its mouth and then discharges them to the level of the Mediterranean Sea, for decades this Oued receives untreated wastewater resulting from the industrial, agricultural and urban activity of 9 cities of the country. It is obvious that the lack of depuration stations at the numerous discharge points located on the Chéliff led to its pollution until day. However, the real problem is how much these pollutants can contribute to the alteration of seawater quality as well as aquatic life because it is a fact that seawater can be potentially contaminated, because it represents the final destination of all pollutants.
Our study consisted in evaluating the quality of the sea water with respect to Oued Chéliff by carrying out physicochemical and microbiological analyzes at three points of our station namely the oued, the mouth and the sea in order to verify and possibly confirm if there are changes in the water characteristics of this station at the Mostaganem citie and as far as possible estimate the pollution rate and its origin.
After a good sampling strategy, physicochemical (pH, eclectic conductivity, temperature, chloride ...) and microbiological (total coliform, fecal coliform, fecal streptococci, staphylococcus, and salmonella) analyzes of the waters studied in the laboratory were carried out. , the results of the various analyzes showed that the studied points are cloudy, the high electrical conductivity and the slightly alkaline pH which is suggestive of the presence of microorganisms whatever their origin. The bacteriological results of this study indicate the presence of total coliforms and faecal coliforms due to the wastewater discharged into this wadi and which will subsequently contaminate the sea water, but there is an almost total absence of salmonella and streptococcus. |
