Effect of the Ramadan Fasting on the Variations of Certain Anthropometric and Biochemical Parameters in Type 2 Diabetic Patients Treated with Medications Mixture (Biguanides and Sulfamides)

dc.description.abstract The aim of this investigation is to follow (during and before the month of Ramadan fasting) the evolution of some parameters anthropometric and biochemical in men and the women suffering from the diabetes of the type 2, old from 45 to 55 years and treaties with oral antidiabetics constituted of a mixture (Biguanides and Sulphamides). 84 patients of which (42 men and 42 women) were followed during two experimental periods: the 5 week before Ramadan (P1) and the 3rd week of fasting (P2). By comparison at the period before fasting, the Body Mass Index (BMI) remains practically stable (P>0.05) during the Ramadan among the diabetic patients. However, the women recorded results of BMI significantly (P<0.01) higher than those of the men. No relation between the variations of the levels of glucose, of glycosylated haemoglobin and the fasting of month of Ramadan was recorded during this experimental study. Also, during Ramadan the average content of plasma insulin recorded among diabetic women and men are significantly lowers than during the non-fasting period. Concerning the lipidic parameters measured among all the studied population, the rates of plasmatic triglycerides and of HDL-c decreased significantly (P<0.01) during the period of fasting by comparison at the period before fasting; on the contrary, rates of LDL-c and of cholesterol increased slightly (P>0.05) during the month of Ramadan. In addition, during the two periods experimental, the women showed relatively high rates in LDL- and cholesterol compared to the men (P<0.01). As for proteinous compounds C (protein and urea), their plasmatic rates remain practically stable (P>0, 05) among the women and the men diabetic during all the periods experimental. The month of Ramadan seems not to exert of influence on glucidic and proteinic metabolisms. On the contrary, the metabolism of the lipids seems to be relatively affected among patients diabetic during this period of fasting. en_US
