dc.description.abstract |
This study aims to identify the relationship between the television’s industry and social alienation, which was conducted among students at the University of Mostaganem, Algeria, in all levels of academic disciplines, using different theoretical backgrounds like the critical theory, uses and gratifications approach and media effects studies.
The importance of this study lies in the empirical measure of alienation and its relationship with television as one of the most important media's tool in Algeria.
Our study was based on several questions, including: What is the effect of television industries on viewers? And what is their relationship with the alienation according to the following variables: the rate of television’s use, gender, age, type of housing and university level.
The main hypothesis was: there is a positive correlation between the frequent use of TV as cultural entertainment industry and social alienation among university’s student, we have used both of quantitative and qualitative method through a survey and interviews according to the discussion groups style.
The questionnaire includes a series of questions related to the television uses and their gratifications, visualizing the effects of TV programs and a measure of alienation.
After the procedures of the validity, the reliability and the distribution of the questionnaires, we have analyzed the data of 384 unit which are valid for analysis by using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) through the extraction of some application like: the averages, the percentages, standard deviations, correlation and other test in order to verify the validity of the hypotheses which have been confirmed some of it and refuse others.
We found that the intensity of using television has correlation to "powerlessness" as the most important aspect of alienation. |
