Résumé:
This study was conducted in the region Tiaret with the aim of characterizing phenotypically. 14
quantitative morphological characters were applied on 27 sheep heads. Only the quantitative
characters showed significant values both for the individuals sexes. The results showed sex
differences between measured body variables. Body measurements that were most representative
for males: LT, TP, LQ, and for females they are: HG, HS, and HD. The results obtained revealed
that the sheep population of the Tiaret region is getting closer of the Ouled Djellal breed. The
great variability noted for tourniquet height, head length and neck length in individuals of the
study population compared to that of the Ouled Djellal breed indicates great potential for genetic
improvement by selection.
