Sea cucumbers are consumed throughout the world by different peoples that are why the overfishing of sea cucumbers is a global phenomenon today. Artificial reproduction and aquaculture offer a solution. The international trade in sea cucumber is considered as an important conservation issue especially considering the limited information available when it comes to the management of the sea cucumber fishery globally. Our work aims to know the national needs that condition the artificial reproduction of sea cucumber species of commercial interest inhabiting our coasts, and to respond to the problem: can we carry out the sea cucumber project in Algeria?
Based on studies and experiences from all over the world, our choice fell on the Italian experience of breeding Holothuria poli as a model because it is better suited for Algeria.
We have indicated some experiences of reproduction of sea cucumbers by induction of spawning in the world and in the Mediterranean, the destination of the final product, all the material necessary for the realization of a breeding center and also the Algerian aquaculture farms that can adopt the project.
From the experiences shown in this study, it was found that the holothuriculture project could be carried out in Algeria, in particular the breeding of Holothuria poli |
