Résumé:
This work has provided information on some parameters of the biometry, growth and diet of a species
targeted by the recreational fishery, Auxis rochei caught in the bay of Mostaganem.
The study is based on the comparison of three previous studies in the Mediterranean basin.
For growth, these studies were carried out in : Algeria (Mostaganem), Spain and Turkey.
The size-weight relationship indicates a difference between the Mostaganem region and Turkey,
where the melva has a minor allometry in the first region, but a major allometry in the second
(Turkish), where the weight grows faster than the cube of the length. We suggest that this difference
is due to the different characteristics of the environment from which the fish were taken, as well as
the variability of the marine ecosystem in the two areas.
And for the diet, studies have been carried out in the Algerian and Tunisian basin. The results indicate
that the diet of the melva consists mainly of 04 zoological groups: teleosteans, crustaceans, molluscs
and plants with different degrees of preference for each group.
Melva feeds mainly and preferentially on clupeids (Sardinella aurita, Sardinella aurita), followed by
crustaceans or molluscs depending on age and region.
Some plants are found in the stomach contents of A. rochei but it remains an accidental prey for our
species.
