Résumé:
This research present the first study conducted in algeria to determine the hematological and biochimical parameters before and after a 90KM race in endurance horses, we will find eliminated horses and others who finished the race.
This study was conducted on 15 endurance horses (10 Arabian horses, 4Arabian barbs and 01 Barb horse).
09 horses finished the endurance race, while the other 6 were eliminated and did not finish the race for various reason.Blood samples were taken from each horse before and after the end of the race.
Whole blood samples were used to measure hemato-biochemical parameters. Our result showed for the group that successfully completed the race a significant increase in hematological parameters (RBC , Hb , Ht and MCV) total leukocyte count , neutrophils and platelets, lympocytes and eosinophyls showed a significant decrease while that serum biochemical parameters showed a significant increase in Ca ,triglyceride, urea, uric acid,AST and CK and a decrease in Mg, chol, glucetGgt.
The study showed that for eliminated horses, there were significant changes in total white blood cell count, lumphocyte, neutrophil,Hb and Ht values compared to good performing horses. Serum biochemical parameters showed a significant increase in triglycerides, U-A, AST and CK, and a significant decrease in Ca,Mg,CHOL and Ggt.The two groups(GP and PP) before the race showed a significant difference for most of the haemato-biochemical parameters thus, additional studies had been necessary in order to highlight possible parameters revealing the capacity of a horse to finish a race.
