Résumé:
Cichorium spinosum.L is a plant that is known for its therapeutic effect. It is used in traditional medicine and is considered as healing. Inflammatory diseases are pathologies that can be preserved by this plant. The extract of c.spinosum has been tested for its anti-inflammatory effect. This activity has been evaluated in vivo by the carrageenan-induced edema test. An acute toxicity test of hydro-methamolic extract at doses of 150, 250, 500 and 1000mg/Kg, respectively, was performed in oral administration. The results show that at these doses, the extract has no toxic effect. The preventive treatment with this extract was given one hour before provoking the acute inflammation by the injection of 0.1% carrageenan, The extract tested at doses 50, 150 and 250mg/kg showed significant anti-inflammatory activity (P<0.001 compared to control). Thus, the percentage of edema inhibition reached 85% for the 250mg/kg dose and 90% inhibition for Diclofenac. The histological study of the sections treated with Diclofenac and the extract of c.spinosum (50, 150 and 250mg/Kg) confirm that the extract of the plant has an anti-inflammatory activity very close to that of diclofenac, effectiveness proved for the dose 250 mg/kg, this effectiveness is observed microscopically by the reduction of the size of the oedemas and the progressive disappearance of the inflammatory infiltrates according to the administered doses of the treatment The anti-inflammatory activity of this extract of Chicorium spinosum L. could find its application in the therapeutic field to treat inflammations that affect the different organs
