dc.description.abstract |
The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of Azolla in wastewater treatment and to assess its potential as a substitute for soybean meal in broiler chicken feed. Azolla was cultivated in both wastewater and well water. Water quality parameters, including BOD5, COD, and TSS were analysed. Additionally, the protein content of Azolla was compared based on its cultivation environment. Chicken feed was supplemented with Azolla from these two sources at concentrations of 5%, 10%, and 15%. Treatment with Azolla resulted in a significant reduction in BOD5 (85%), COD (72.87%), and TSS (96.63%). Azolla grown in wastewater showed a protein content of 30.5% compared to 23.5% for that from well water. While the incorporation of Azolla improved the protein content in chicken meat, it did not have a significant impact on live weight. Azolla demonstrated notable effectiveness in wastewater treatment and could serve as a partial substitute for soybean meal, enhancing the protein quality of chicken meat without affecting their weight. |
