Abstract

This master's thesis examines the contemporary challenges of poultry farming in Algeria, notably short- ages of raw materials, price fluctuations, and environmental pressures. It proposes adopting an agricultural management approach that integrates economics, resources, innovation, and environmental considerations to ensure the sustainable use of resources. The study highlights the importance of raising awareness among policymakers to achieve protein self- sufficiency, ensure food security, and strengthen the country’s food sovereignty. The thesis also emphasizes the crucial role of soybean meal as a protein source for poultry, stressing the impact of its quality and processing (toasting) on broiler performance. It introduces innovative technologies such as NIRS-SPIR spectroscopy, which enables rapid and non- destructive analysis of soybean meal quality, while identifying barriers to its adoption, such as cost and the need for training. Recommendations are made to facilitate the integration of this technology into agricultural practices and to improve coordination along the value chain. Finally, the thesis discusses how animal nutritionists formulate feed recipes based on available analyses, highlighting the challenges related to the use of laboratory tools and the interpretation of results. It insists on the need for a flexible and adaptive approach in feed formulation, integrating new R&D data while balancing technical, marketing, and economic requirements.
