Abstract

This study is based on a descriptive and analytical ethnobotanical approach carried out in the Mostaganem region (town, douars and villages) with the aim of carrying out a phytotherapeutic analysis with herbalists, the local population and traditional practitioners. The survey involved 20 herbalists, 60 members of the local population and 05 traditional therapists. In the light of the results we have noted that the youngest age group predominates in the practice of herbalism, they are all male and their level of education is lower. The majority of herbalists do not engage in other activities. 63 % of the population surveyed use traditional medicine. Most women are interested in herbal medicine This study enabled us to list 46 plant species with therapeutic properties for the local population, belonging to 21 botanical families; the most represented being the Lamiaceae, Apiaceae, Fabaceae and Asteraceae. It appears that people are familiar with medicinal plants, their benefits and their uses in treating female infertility, of which 28 plant species are listed by traditherapists.
