يعد المعجم التاريخيّ للّغة العربيّة ديوان ألفاظ الأمّة العربيّة، هو معجم أحادي اللّغة يُأثل ويؤرخ لمفرداتها عبر سبعة عشر (17) قرنا، يتتبع التغيرات التي طرأت على كلماته، مستعينًا بشواهد حية من القرآن الكريم، والأحاديث النبويّة، والشعر وغيره، حيث تمثل كتب الغريب من غريب القرآن والحديث، مصدراً أساسياً للمعجم التاريخي، حيث يعتمد المعجم على الشروح التي تقدمها كتب الغريب لفهم معاني الكلمات مبهمة،.وربط الكلمة بسياقات زمنية متعددة وتحليل تطورها عبر العصور،باعتباره مرجع ثقافي ومعرفي لتوثيق تاريخ الألفاظ وتطور دلالتها.The Historical Dictionary of the Arabic Language is a collection of the words of the Arab nation.It is a monolingual dictionary that interprets and dates its vocabulary over seventeen (17) centuries.It traces the changes that occurred in its words, using living evidence from the Holy Qur’an, the Prophet’s hadiths, poetry, and others, as the books of the strange represent the strange of the Qur’an.The hadith is an essential source for the historical dictionary, as the dictionary relies on the explanations provided by strange books to understand the meanings of ambiguous words.Linking the word to multiple time contexts and analyzing its
