In the present work, two marine algae namely Ulva lactuca and Cystoseira stricta, were chemically midified by HCl, CaCl2 and H3PO4 in order to obtain adsorbants capable of removing two hazardous cationic dyes from wastewaters. Experimental results showed that the activated algaefound to be very effective in wastewater treatment. Adsorption data were well described by both the Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin .Iodine number determination indicated high microporosity, accounting for the the high surface area of the prepared adsorbents. The high adsorption capacity for dye removal exhibited by the chemically modifiel algae show that the latter could prove very useful in industrial water depollution.en_US
