The Impact of Teacher-Student Relationship on Students’ Achievements

Abstract

This research explores the relationships in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) classrooms, in particular the interactions between teachers and students. Initially, the research examined an overview of teacher-student relationships and the factors that contribute to these interactions. This overview included both the perceptions and personal characteristics of teachers and students, and then examined the effects of teacher-student relationships on academic achievement. The overview of the research literature concluded with how to develop positive relationships. Students' methods, expectations and motivations, their participation, and both behaviors all play a role in building relationships in the classroom environment. The objective of the research was to determine whether improving the relationship between teachers and students would increase student performance. To achieve this goal, a data collection process from 48 participants was put in place to focus on understanding the infrastructure of the teacher-student relationship and how each of them values ​​this relationship. The teacher and the student are the pillars of a successful relationship, both contributing to and benefiting from it. Teachers bring their wisdom and knowledge, in return they receive feedback that allows them to improve their methods and strategies. On the other hand, students contribute through their participation, participation in classroom activities and interaction with teachers to gain the support and attention of teachers that enable them to achieve their goals.
