Hepatitis C is an infectious disease caused by a virus (HCV) that attacks the liver and causes an inflammation and ends with cirrhosis. Hepatitis C virus is transmitted mainly through blood and the use of contaminated equipment. The disease can also be transmitted from an affected mother to her child. Sexual transmission is exceptional.
It is a public health problem worldwide, and Algeria remains an intermediate endemic country.
This is the purpose of our work, which involves studying the prevalence of this disease at the mother and child EPH of the wilaya of Mostaganem.
Serological diagnosis was carried out using two methods commonly used in the medical field.
ELISA is one of the most reliably used techniques of serological immunology in the detection of viral particles in very small quantities. HCV has been detected in male serum more than female serum (53%-47%) and in different age groups from 25 to 37 years old, and 40 to 60 years old for men. |
