The aim of this work is to study the antimicrobial potency of the extract of red algae
Corallina officinalis harvested in the eastern region of Mostaganem against 6 microorganisms
tests, Bacillus cereus ATCC 10876, Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, Candida albicans ATCC
10231, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853,
Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 33862.
The results of the antagonist activity expressed by the diameters of the AWDT well diffusion
method inhibition zones as well as the minimum inhibitory concentrations ( MIC) differ from
one species to another. The results of the AWDT test were of the order 36.5±1.5, 21.5±1.5,
20±1 and 18.5±0.5 mm, respectively with respect to Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Candida
albicans ATCC 10231, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 33862, Bacillus cereus ATCC 10876
and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853. No antimicrobial activity was noted against
Bacillus subtilid strain ATCC 6633.
The best minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) with a common value of 100mg / μl was
observed for Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Candida albicans ATCC 1023 and
Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 33862, while the MIC with minimal inhibitory effect was
noted. With a value of 50 mg/μl with the strains Bacillus cereus ATCC 10876 and
Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853.
These results suggest that Corallina officinalis extract has a very important inhibitory effect
against certain pathogens. |
