Self-medication is a practice that is increasingly encouraged in today's society. It is justified by the economic context, demographics and the need for 117 patient empowerment. But it can in case of misuse expose to risks. In this context, we did this work in order to estimate the prevalence of this practice in Mostaganem regipon, to appreciate the influencing factors and the causes of this behavior.
It was a cross-sectional descriptive study, based on collecting data by a survey for sellers and patients who self-medicate, with 30 pharmacy who accept to participate at the study in Mostaganem region, during two-months, from March to May 2019.
The results obtained show a predominance of female self-medication with (61%) against (39%) for the male sex with a sex ratio of 0,65. The age group that consumes these products much more is situated between 30 and 50 years with (76%) and the average age of the patients was 37, 13. The category of the population who self-medicate is that of academics with (39%). Paracetamol is the most used analgesic with a proportion of (75%). All the results obtained show that the risk covered by aspirin is higher than paracetamol; educational actions, reminders of the good use of medicines rules for the proper use of self-medication , should be considered in consultation and at the pharmacy. A sharing of skills between doctors and pharmacy to carry out common actions to promote the proper use of these drugs would be desirable. |
