dc.description.abstract Arthrospira platensis or Spirulina platensis, like other species of cyanobacteria, are an incre-dibly ancient group of prokaryotic organisms rich in amino acids, vitamins and trace ele-ments. They produce a variety of industrial-important secondary metabolites, such as antibio-tics, algicides, antioxidants and immune system stimulants. This study was based on a phenotypic characterization of five target strains : E. coli, B. ce-reus, S. aureus, Proteus sp, and C. albicans and the determination of antimicrobial activity of two extracts of Spirulina plantensis on these five characterized strains. Extraction was carried out by two methods : maceration and soxhlet, using two solvents : ethanol and ethyl acetate. Based on the results obtained, the two extracts of Spirulina platensis showed different degrees of antimicrobial activity. The diameters of the inhibition zone range from 8mm to 17mm. This variation is dependent on the extraction method and the target strain tested. en_US
