The analysis of trace elements (TEs) in foodstuffs, in particular milk, could be an important indicator of the safety, quality and pollution level of the region where the milk was produced. Therefore, the present study was conducted to determine some TEs (Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn) in cow milk (from different regions of Mostaganem) and some of the most important industrial milks in the Algerian market, as well as the risk assessment following their consumption. According to the results, no trace of lead was detected in all samples, while cadmium values were very high compared to the standards and much higher in industrial milks (0.036- -0.304 mg/kg). For essential elements, cow's milk had good zinc values compared to industrial milk, but the sample from the Stidia region had levels 19 times superior than the maximum allowed for zinc. For copper, values lower than the maximum permitted levels (0.4 mg/kg) were recorded. Based on the calculated risk indices, no product is dangerous for the consumer. |
