Broomrapes are holoparasitic angiosperms of the Orobanchaceae family, totally devoid of chlorophyll. Their life cycle is therefore entirely dependent on their host(s) : broomrapes must, in order to feed, connect to the root system of their host using a specialized sucking organ. The objective of this study was to identify and count individuals of the genus Orobanche and to make an almost exhaustive list focusing on studies of plant biodiversity in the two areas "Kharouba and Mostaganem city". We conducted a survey from March 2022 until May 2022, weekly outings were carried out practically for harvesting and census of plant species, taking pictures of whole plants and temporarily taking samples for identification.
We discovered for the first time in Algeria two species of Broomrape, Orobanche litorea & Orobanche canescens. A remarkable plant diversity, generated by the existence of several plant formations. The number of species recorded is 44 species, with 40 genera and 21 families. Nevertheless, this richness is threatened by several factors such as : drought and human action. Biologically rich but very sensitive environments. Protection and conservation are more important than ever. |
