This study provides information on the nutritional characteristics, biometrics, and histological anatomy of the common Octopus (Octopus vulgaris) captured on the west coast of Algeria. The data, collected over a 4-month period from 32 individuals, revealed the following findings:
The weights of the octopuses in the samples ranged from 77.29 to 961.24 g. It was observed that the weights of 31 out of the 32 captured individuals were below the established threshold of 700 g.
The evaluation of weight in relation to length indicated a negative allometry, with a value of b=2.46 in Mostaganem and b=2.04 in Stidia.
The Octopus flesh is highly rich in water and nutrients, containing 82.87% to 83.37% water, 14.41% to 16.03% protein, 1.97% to 2.44% lipid, and 3.27% to 3.62% mineral matter.
Histological analysis of the liver, muscle, and gonad revealed specific biological characteristics of Octopus vulgaris. |
