Persistent oral infection remains among the incurable problems for dental surgeons. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of essential oil extracted from the medicinal plant Salvia officinalis on certain germs responsible for oral infections.
The results obtained show that the EOs have an important inhibiting effect against the microorganisms studied. Indeed, the zones of inhibition obtained vary between 6 and 28.5 mm, indicating that the two strains have different sensitivities according to the concentration of the EO. Moreover, the higher the concentration of EO, the greater the inhibition for the two bacterial species tested. Overall, we can deduce that Staphylococcus aureus, a Gram (+) species, was more sensitive to the inhibiting action of this essential oil. |
