The essential oils from the aromatic plant Eucalyptus globulus originating from the Sidi
M’hamed Ben Ali region (Relizane province) were the focus of our study. Extraction of essential
oils from 920g of Eucalyptus globulus leaves using steam distillation yielded 0.43%.
Phytochemical screening identified a diversity of bioactive substances. Thin-layer
chromatography analysis of alkaloids and flavonoids revealed a significant number of spots,
indicating a notable abundance of these secondary metabolites. Evaluation using DPPH radical
scavenging assay demonstrated that Eucalyptus globulus essential oil possesses significant
antioxidant activity, with an IC50 of 89 mg/ml.
The antibacterial efficacy of these oils was assessed against five bacterial strains:
Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and
Bacillus cereus. The results showed antibacterial effects against all tested bacterial strains at
various concentrations: 100 mg, 50 mg, 25 mg, 12.5 mg, and 6.25 mg.
The essential oil from Eucalyptus globulus leaves was incorporated into the production of
organic cosmetics (soap and cream) to leverage its biological properties |
