Abstract

This work presents a phytochemical analysis and an antimicrobial evaluation of extracts from the roots of Carthamus caeruleus. The phytochemical analysis, carried out using colorimetric methods based on specific reagents, revealed the significant presence of flavonoids and coumarin, as well as a low presence of saponosides . However, no polyphenols and no tannins were detected. The antimicrobial evaluation, carried out using well, disc and spot methods, showed no activity against microbial growth for all the strains tested. These results underline the potential importance of flavonoids and coumarin in Carthamus caeruleus extracts, although it has proven to be ineffective against microbial strains. Further research is needed to explore other bioactive compounds and fully understand the pharmacological potential of this plant.
