Salvia hispanica L. is an annual herb widely distributed and used throughout the world for its
culinary and medicinal properties. Salvia hispanica is rich in bioactive compounds such as
antioxidants and anti-inflammatories, which makes it a very beneficial food for health. The
purpose of our work was the extraction of essential oils form chia seeds by hydrodistillation
as well as the preparation of a methanol extract in order to study: phytochemical screening
which is a general method to detect the presence of chemical compounds in plants, determine
the specific dosage of polyphenols and flavonoids, the evaluation of the antioxidant activity of
the methanolic extract and the evaluation of the anti-inflammatory activity of the methanolic
extract of our seeds .The last part of our work was devoted to the study of the antagonistic
effect of the methanolic extract of chia salvia hispanica seed on the growth of two pathogenic
bacteria ATCC tests .The results indicate a high content of total polyphenols and
flavonoids. The methanolic extract of Chia spanica seeds seems to possess high and
considerable antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties with a remarkable antimicrobial
activity via the targeted strains (Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus). |
