Etude de l’activité biologique de l’extrait des feuilles de Laurus nobilis L. récoltée dans deux régions différentes

Abstract

Extracts of Laurier noble, commonly known as Laurus nobilis, are widely studied for their diverse biological properties. This study aims to evaluate the antioxidant and antimicrobial activity of extracts from the aerial parts of Laurus nobilis, collected in the regions of Mostaganem-Sidi Ali and Tissemsilt-Lardjem. Leaves were collected in both regions and subjected to phenolic extraction as well as hydrodistillation to obtain essential oils. The extraction yields by hydrodistillation were 0.4% for Laurus nobilis from Mostaganem and 0.8% for Laurus nobilis from Tissemsilt, while the phenolic extracts showed yields of 11% for Laurus nobilis from Mostaganem and 16% for Laurus nobilis from Tissemsilt. Regarding the quantitative determination of total polyphenols (by the Folin-Ciocalteu method) and flavonoids (by the aluminum trichloride method), the measured amounts in the leaf extract of Laurus nobilis were as follows: for the Mostaganem sample, 6.79 mg GAE/g and 44 mg EQ/g of total polyphenols and flavonoids, respectively; for the Tissemsilt sample, 6.18 mg GAE/g and 31.02 mg EQ/g of extract for total polyphenols and flavonoids, respectively. The evaluation of antibacterial activity demonstrated that the essential oils and phenolic extracts of Laurus nobilis from Mostaganem and Tissemsilt have similar antimicrobial effects against the tested strains. The results suggest that the essential oils and phenolic extracts of the studied plant samples have similar biological properties, with the potential for use as antioxidants and antimicrobial agents.
