Formulation d’une crème à base de la mauve (Malva sylvestris) pour l’usage cosmétique et pharmaceutique

Abstract

This study focuses on the preparation of a healing cream for pharmaceutical use based on a wild plant "Malva sylvestris", a species widely used in Algerian traditional medicine for its curative properties. The phytochemical screening of the mallow leaf extract revealed the presence of different classes of secondary metabolites such as polyphenols, flavonoids, triterpenes and mucilages. These compounds are known for their anti-inflammatory and healing properties, which could contribute to the effectiveness of the mucilage-based formulation in the treatment of scars. The extraction of the leaves of Malva sylvestris gave a mucilage yield of 1.4%. The basic emulsion obtained of the W/O (water-in-oil) type with a concentration of 1% of the extracted Malva sylvestris mucilages has been evaluated for its organoleptic properties. Organoleptic qualities of the formula show a creamy consistency, an absence of odor, a slightly tinted color, a shine and an easy spreadability. The stability test by centrifugation shows an absence of layers separation, which implies that all the products used were physically stable. Microscopic examination showed the homogeneity of the cream. pH measurement shows a slight increase over time. The satisfactory results obtained during this work, as well as other in-vivo wound healing research with the same plant, allow us to affirm that this cream can be commercialized and replace those that are chemical without risk of harmful effects. However, further studies are needed to confirm these results and better understand the mechanisms of action involved.
