The diet of mackerel (Scomber japonicus) was studied by analyzing the stomach contents of 15 individuals from the Mostaganem region. The data on the contents of the stomach were analyzed by the following methods: importance index Nm, food index Q. and the percentage of presence of each food element The void coefficient is 46.66 and the feeding activity is influenced by the physiological state of the fish and the environmental and seasonal conditions. The diet of mackerel is wide, consisting mainly of fish, clams, crustaceans (copepods, amphipods) and cephalopods. Fish occupy the first and most important place with a very high food coefficient Q, they are therefore mainly preferred and daily prey followed by polychaetes, crustaceans (copepods and amphipods) which are sometimes considered as prey. Mackerel makes a strategy of specialization in fish and a strategy of generalization for other prey.en_US
