Evaluation du pouvoir antimicrobien des huiles essentielles ou des extraits de Thapsia garganica L.

Abstract

Thapsia garganica is an endemic plant that grows spontaneously in the Mediterranean basin. It is used by the Algerian population for certain cases of rheumatism. In this study we tested the antibacterial and antioxidant activity of the hydromethanolic extract of the roots of Thapsia garganica on seven strains responsible for nosocomial infections. The humidity of the roots of the species Thapsia garganica revealed a rate of 61.91%. The average yield of hydromethanolic extracts by maceration is 8.6 (%). The contents of polyphenols, flavonoids and tannins obtained in the root of Thapsia garganica are 405mg/mL, 11.65mg/mL and 0.18 mg/mL respectively. The results of the antimicrobial activity of the hydromethanolic extract show that the latter exerted an antimicrobial power against the microbial strains tested, the diameters of the zones of inhibition vary between 10.63 and 13.56 mm. The most sensitive strains are the Bacillus genus: B. cereus ATCC 10876, B. cereus ATCC 11778 and B. subtilis ATCC 6633 with inhibition zone diameters of 13.56, 11.4 and 10.63 mm respectively. The less sensitive strain is S. aureus ATCC 25923 with an inhibition zone diameter of 10.63mm. The results of the antimicrobial parameters of the hydromethanolic extract show activity against the microbial strains tested, the values obtained range from 31.25 to 15.625 μl/mL for the CMI and 125 μl/mL for the CMB and the CMF. The hydromethanolic extract showed a percentage inhibition of 10.09%.
