In Algeria, herbal medicine has always been used in the traditional medicine sector. Today plants play a very important role in the medical traditions and the life of the inhabitants of Algeria, but the rules for their use are sometimes lacking in rigor and do not take into account the new requirements of modern therapy. The species described in our work is Atriplex halimus.L which belongs to the chenopodiaceae family. This species known under the name of (Guettaf) is widely answered in southern Algeria. It has several therapeutic uses known for its hypoglycemic properties, and acts on sleeping sickness and known for its antioxidant activity. The phytochemical tests of the aerial part (leaf + stem) of Atriplex halimus prepared by infusion, decoction and maceration show the presence of several chemical families which are tannins, flavonoids, saponins and proteins. While they are devoid of free quinones, Sterols and triterpene and alkaloids. These phytoconstituents play a very important role in the pharmacological activities known in this plant.en_US
