Each year, 72 billion cigarette butts are scattered in nature. However, it is waste that pollutes cities, flora and fauna, especially the marine environment. Cigarette butts are the most common waste found on beaches just after plastic bottles. Different solutions to reduce their impact on the environment have been proposed, without great results. Sensitizing smokers to this pollution seems to be the best way. The aim of this work is the biodegradation of cigarette butts by bacteria. These isolated strain and identify are gram-positive bacilli (Bacillus megaterium) capable of growing in temperature 37 ° C using the cigarette butt polymer as a carbon source. The property analyzed in this study is the potential for bacterial biofilm formation on plastic and its physical characteristics before and after incubation for several weeks.en_US
