Rôle de déchets de thé déjà infusé (engrais bio) sur la croissance et le rendement de l’aubergine

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of spent tea waste on the growth of eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) seedlings. The experiment was conducted at the Mazagran experimental farm (Mostaganem, Algeria) using two application methods: solid tea waste incorporated into the soil and liquid tea extract applied through irrigation at concentrations of 1%, 2%, and 3%, compared with an untreated control. The results showed that tea waste significantly enhanced seedling growth. The 2% and 3% treatments, particularly in liquid form, promoted increases in shoot and root length, leaf number, leaf area, and fresh and dry biomass. An improvement in the water status of the seedlings was also observed, reflected by higher relative water content and lower relative water loss. Biochemical analyses revealed increased chlorophyll, sugars, total polyphenols, and flavonoids contents in treated seedlings. These findings indicate that spent tea waste is a promising organic amendment capable of improving the growth and physiological performance of eggplant while contributing to the recycling of agro-food waste and promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
