L’activité antimicrobienne et antioxydant de la plante Thymus vulgaris de la région de Sidi Ali sur les microorganismes pathogènes

Abstract

Thym is a shrub belonging to the family Lamiaceae. This work focused on the study of the antimicrobial effect of the essential oil and phenolic extract of Thymus vulgaris. The extraction of the essential oil is carried out by hydrodistilation and the extraction of phenols by maceration. The antimicrobial activity was determined on ten strains, according to the disc method and the determination of MIC by the microdilution method on 96-well microplates. The study of antioxidant activity by DPPH. The yield of essential oil and phenolic extract obtained is 0.39% and 26.5% respectively. The results show that the extract of T.vulgaris has a strong antimicrobial activity represented with inhibition diameters vary between 7mm to 25mm for the phenolic extract and with a diameter of 8mm to 37mm for the essential oil. The Staphylococcus aureus strain ATTC 25923 was extremely sensitive than the other strains. The minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBC) ranged from 0.15mg/ml to 0.3mg/ml for the phenolic extract and from 0.04mg/ml to 0.9mg/ml for the EO. The results of antioxidant activity of crude extract of T.vulgaris leaves were revealed a very high percentage of DPPH inhibition of 83.50%.
