| dc.description.abstract | The Mediterranean basin is known for its natural wealth, it is a potential source of new medicines of plant origin.. Marrubium vulgare L. or white chestnut is a species very widespread in the Algerian flora and which is widely used due to its therapeutic properties. Consequently, we are interested in this work to study the antibacterial activity of the extracts of the species select on the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The leaves of the Marrubium vulgare collected from Mostaganem (Sayada), revealed a moisture content of 61.4%, extraction of these latter by maceration gave a yield of 8.15% and 2.6%, respectively for methanolic and acetonic extract.Phytochemical screening of this species showed that Marrubium vulgare leaves were rich in various secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, tannins, saponosides, anthocyanins, sterols and triterpenes, and mucilage The results obtained from the study of antimicrobial activity by diffusion of the discs into the agar medium of the methanolic and acetonic extracts, on the reference strain tested, revealed that the inhibition zones decrease with the decrease in the concentration of the extracts. The widest inhibition zone is recorded for methanol extract (10 mm), the liquid micro-dilution method used to obtain MICs at values ranging from 3.25 mg/ml to 1.625 mg/ml for methanolic and acétonic extract, respectively, while the BMC value is higher than the concentration tested (> 50 mg/ml) | en_US |
