Abstract

The aim of the present study was the determination of frequency and nature of reproductive pathology in the genital tracts of cows (n=30) and ewes (n=100) at the Tiaret abattoir. The results of the present study shown that cows had 20% and 22% of pregnancy were reported in cows and ewes, respectively. All the pregnancies were at the right horn. A total of 26 genital tracts in cows and 20 in ewes had different pathologies. While congenital anomalies were low in our study, the acquired pathologies were much more dominant. The most frequently isolated cases were metritis (23.3%) in cows and para-ovarian abscess (5%) in ewes. In cows, ovarian cysts were the second most important pathology with an incidence of 20%. They were single cyst, present mainly at the right ovary. Cervicitis (10%), tuberculosis (10%), pyometra(6,6%), adhesion(6,6%) and brucellosis (6,6%) were also recorded. In ewes, hydrosalpinx (3%), metritis endometritis (3%) and ovarian cysts (3%) were ranked the second followed by ovaritis (2%), cervical curvature(1%), parous cyst(1%), uterus unicornis(1%) and pyometra (1%).
