The diet of mackerel (Scomber japonicus) has been studied by analyzing stomach contents of fish in the Mostaganem area. Data analysis of stomach contents was made by the methods: the importance index Nm, the index food Q. The food index Q showed that mackerel has a diet composed of five main preys, two of which are preferred: fish and copepods, amphipods, gastropods. This species feeds mainly on preferential prey followed by polychaetes and crustaceans, and zooplanktonic organisms, such as cephalopods and small pelagic fish, especially anchovies and sardines. In addition, planktonic crustaceans are always present in the diet of mackerel Mackerel shows a double feeding strategy: the strategy of specialization for fish and the strategy of generalization for other preys.en_US
