Abstract
Benthic marine plant macro-algae often used as sentinel species are very interesting and are also used in bio monitoring and assessment of the quality of coastal marine ecosystems.
Our theme is a synthesis of preliminary studies to determine the evolution and spatio-temporal distribution of the different algae present at different stations on the Algerian west coast.
The coasts of Mostaganem (western Algeria) revealed the presence of 137 species which were listed, among the main groups represented in: 50% red algae, 21% green algae, 29% brown algae.
In the inventory of macro-algae species present in Oran, red algae dominate at 40%. From this, we conclude that the west coast of Algeria is rich in red algae.
