Abstract

Algeria, by its geographical position, shelters an exceptional biodiversity including important medicinal plants. Thymelaeahirsuta, endemic species, is a medicinal plant used in traditional Algerian pharmacopoeia for various diseases treatment. This work focused on phytochemical study of ethanolic extract fractions obtained from Thymelaeahirsutaflowers and leaves, and evaluation, in vitro, of their antioxidant activities using the scavenging the 2 2-diphenyl-1- radical. picrylhydrazyl method (DPPH). Results show significant amounts of phenolics and flavonoids, specifically in n-butanol and ethyl acetate fractions. These same fractions constitute a potential antioxidant source with IC50 ranging between 1.738 ± 0.052 and 2.015 ± 0.044 mg/ml of lyophilisate. This study confirms the traditional use of this plant and reveals its interest in the perspective of industrial pharmaceutical exploitation
