Utilisation des plantes médicinales en rhumatologie: évaluation de la prévalence et des facteurs sociodémographique et médicaux associés.

Abstract

Rheumatic diseases represent a public health problem. Any delay in rheumatologic consultation can negatively influence diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. A cross-sectional descriptive epidemiological survey is carried out on a sample of 135 patients who were interviewed consecutively during a routine rheumatologic consultation between March and May 2019 in the rheumatology department of salamander and mazagran hospital, this survey focuses on the sociodemographic characteristics of patients, the disease and the medicinal plants that relieve or treat these rheumatic conditions. of the 140 cases recorded, 5 cases were excluded from the study for their provenance outside Mostaganem wilaya and 135 cases were included in our study, 111 women (82%), and 24 men (18%) ; Most of the patients were house wives with 46% and illiterates with 53%. As for the type of the disease, osteoarthritis wich comes first with 43%, followed by rheumatoid arthritis with 30%, ankylosing spondylitis 12%, osteopathies 8% and gout withonly with 6%. Patients had opted for other types of treatment before going to the rheumatologist: atraditional treatment "herbalmedicine" which we quote some plants used lik: Zingiber officinaler, Marrubium vulgare L, Lepidium sativum, Turmeric longaL, Syzyriuma romaticum, Origanumg landulosum, Inulaviscosa. It’s apear that, the majority of rheumatology consulting patients used medicinal plants in routine practice. Since the use of herbal medicine is not immune to certain risks due to potential interactions with certain drugs and the toxicity of certain plants, rheumatologists should be come accustomed to discussing this aspect of plant use.
