Etude épidémiologique et descriptive sur le diabète au niveau de la maison des diabétiques de Salamandre à Mostaganem

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease characterized by chronic hyperglycemia resulting from a defect in insulin secretion or insulin action or both of these associated abnormalities. Chronic hyperglycemia is associated, in the long term, with specific organic complications, particularly affecting eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart and blood vessels. The objective of our work is to make a descriptive epidemiological study of a number of diabetic persons (53 patients) treating themselves at the Public Health Proximity Establishment of Salamandre at the province of Mostaganem, and at the same time checking their eating habits since the dietary intake evaluation is in particular a part of the treatment of this pathology. During our study, we identified clinical and biological data by referring to the medical records submitted at Public Health Proximity Establishment of Salamandre; while regarding to eating habits, a questionnaire was made based on the collection of patient's usual consumption information. Some information has been gathered on this part of the population of the Province of Mostaganem; (their diabetes and diet) according to the age, the sex, the family status, the duration of diabetes, the CMI, the type of diabetes and the biological measurements, etc. These collected information show us that there is a close relationship between diabetic persons and the diet, knowing that an imbalanced diet is the main risk factor, while healthy eating habits can delay, prevent and limit complications.
