| dc.description.abstract | This study focused primarily on a plant species widely distributed in various regions of Algeria, namely Tetraclinis articulata. The essential oils of the arar tree were collected from the province of Mostaganem, specifically from the El Chegga forest located in the municipality of Aïn El Nouissy. The essential oils extracted from fresh leaves, dried leaves, fresh twigs, and dried twigs showed yields of 0.095%, 0.29%, 0.041%, and 0.096%, respectively. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of several bioactive compounds, particularly phenols and tannins. A study of the antibacterial activity using the agar diffusion method revealed a significant inhibitory effect of the essential oils against certain pathogenic and antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains, particularly Staphylococcus aureus and beta-haemolytic Streptococcus. The best results were obtained with the essential oils extracted from fresh twigs. The liquid microdilution method allowed the determination of minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) ranging from 0.12 μL/mL to 1 μL/mL, as well as minimum bactericidal concentrations (MBCs) of 1 μL/mL for all tested bacterial species. The study of the effect of essential oils on insects showed significant insecticidal activity, with mortality rates reaching up to 100%. | |
