dc.description.abstractPlants are exposed to a variety of harmful air pollutants, which cause oxidative stress and pose a threat to plant health; agricultural production and ecosystem vitality. Despite climate measures and technological development, most ecosystems and agricultural areas are exposed to high levels of ground-level ozone, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter (PM). The situation continues to worsen globally due to rapid urbanization and development. The adverse effects of air pollutants on plants are manifested in reduced growth and productivity, reduced nutritional value of food, and disruption of ecosystem function. To mitigate the effects of air pollutants, which often occur in mixtures, plants have developed a range of structural, physiological, metabolic, and biochemical defense mechanisms, including antioxidant defense mechanisms.en_US
